2016 GGC & IEEE WIE & CISPG Meetup: Work Life Balance Seminar
Hey, girls!
Victoria Girl Geek Coffees, IEEE WIE student affinity group at the UniMelb, and CIS Postgraduate Group at UniMelb are holding a Work Life Balance Talk.
Do you want to hear about how to achieve work life balance? Would like to have a profile photo taken for your CV by a professional photographer for free? Interested in competition to win Google swags?
We are pleased to invite you to attend our joint event with Google Girl Geek Coffees and IEEE Women in Engineering. Say bye to final exams and embrace the happy moment, it's a good time to relax and meet new friends. We are organizing a talk followed by a free photography session, games with Google swags as prizes and refreshments.
Title of this talk: Work-life balance: a myth or reality?
Lisa Annese, Diversity Council Australia CEO, said “[We] see more women working part time. It’s obviously not getting any easier to combine full time work with having children. Major barriers continue to be limited access to quality, well paid and flexible work, as well as a lack of affordable and flexible childcare.” While having children is one rationale for a part-time working arrangement, there are many other reasons why employees choose to work flexible hours and spend less time in the office. In her talk, Tatiana will discuss part-time vs full-time work, underemployment rate for women, issues arising when women return to work after having children, and jobs and careers that can encompass flexible working conditions. She will draw on the examples from her own experience and invite the audience to share their stories.
The Guest speaker: Dr. Tatiana Kameneva
Bio: Dr Tatiana Kameneva received PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Melbourne in 2008. She is currently an ARC DECRA Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Dr Kameneva has expertise in control theory tools and in computational modelling in application to life science areas. Dr Kameneva’s roles over the last five years included secondment to NICTA as a coordinator of the Control and Signal Processing research group. This role included working closely with the group leader and senior personnel, to undertake and implement strategic and operational planning. Tatiana Kameneva is a member of IEEE EMBS, Australian Association of Computational Neuroscience and Neuromorphic Engineers, and Computational Neuroscience Society.
